This was the site later occupied by St George's Hall and the Wellington Monument. The Infirmary and Alms Houses were built between 1745 and 1748.
They remained until 1822 when a new Infirmary in Brownlow Street was built.
This drawing represents the period when the Folly Fair was held on the open ground [ afterwards used as Islington Market ] at Easter and Whitsuntide. [The Fair was discontinued in 1819 by order of the magistrates.]
