Departure of the steamship PRESIDENT on her last outward voyage from Liverpool, 10 February 1841, taking passengers on board. She disappeared on her return voyage from New York on March 11 1841, with the loss of all 136 on board, including the irish comic Tyrone Power, the grandfather of the actor of the same name. She was the largest ship in the world when commissioned in 1840. The ship's owner, British and American Steam Navigation Company Limited, collapsed as result of her loss.
