Founder of 'Gore's Liverpool Directory'. Publisher of the first Liverpool Directory of 1766. It continued to bear the name 'Gore's Directory' up to 1921. In his bookshop, the young William Roscoe, for a short period, gained an early introduction to literature. Gore Street was named after him and the 'Liverpool General Advertiser' founded in 1765 was known as 'Gore's Liverpool General Advertiser', continuing up to 1871.
