School Lane contains the oldest surviving building in city centre Liverpool: Bluecoat Chambers, which was built in 1716-17 as a charity school. The front encloses three sides of a quadrangle and is separated from School Lane by a low wall with railings and gatepiers, which, like the building itself, are Grade 1 listed structures.
