Formerly called 'Elbow Lane', owing to a distinctive corner, or elbow, of the lane. Alderman Sweeting, after whom the street was renamed, was Mayor in 1698. Old Sweeting Street is depicted here with a date of 1729 on the wall plaque. The name above the door identifies the premises as Dean Swift's Box.
