In 1909, Frank Woolworth chose Liverpool for his first 3d. and 6d. store in Britain, the equivalent of his five and ten cents stores in the United States. Originally in premises at 25-25a Church Street, the store was moved in 1923 to this site, previously occupied by St. Peter's Church on the opposite side of the street. There it was to remain until the latter part of the century.
