This view is taken from the corner of Lime Street and London Road. Shaw's Brow was so named after the Shaw family who had extensive potteries there in the 18th century. The name was changed to William Brown Street after the opening of the Free Public Library in 1860, in honour of Sir William Brown, its donor.
